Dentistry
Dental disease is something we see commonly at Rye Vet Clinic.
Dental disease is the build up of plaque and calculus leading to gingivitis, inflammation of the gums and the loss of the supportive structures that hold teeth in place. Not only can it be painful, it can also be associated with other conditions such as heart disease and kidney disease, due to the increased bacteria in the mouth.
We have an ultrasonic scaler and dental instrumentation for cleaning and extraction of teeth.
Dogs and cats need a general anaesthetic to allow us to assess their teeth and clean thoroughly under the gum line.
Watch out for smelly breath, a loss of appetite, weight loss, drooling or eating on one side of the mouth. Bad breath means your pet has dental disease and red gums are painful gums.
Dogs and cats with good oral health live longer, healthier lives.
